After using a Kong Big-8 with ears, and hearing that monstrosity clang and ring everytime I moved, I decided to give this a try. Haven't had a chance to climb with it yet, but it is much more manageable in size. Proof-tested too (has small marks inside), so you know it'll support the weight Petzl claims. About the same weight as a HMS or Willam carabiner, so fairly light. Size is comparable to an iPhone 4 and is easy to hold one-handed. Bottom hole is big enough for 2 fingers to fit.
This is the first descender I have bought. It does twist the rope a bit but I have not found in to be problematic yet, and for a few dollars more I would still have bought it over the figure 8.
